Board Care – Quick Tips

• NEVER put your board in the dishwasher
• NEVER soak or submerge your board in water
• Wash with lukewarm water + mild soap
• Towel dry immediately, then air dry vertically
• Re-oil with State 48 Wood Designs Board Conditioner as needed
• Avoid acidic foods—they wear the board conditioner finish off faster

Using Your Board

PLEASE USE YOUR BOARD.
Yes, it’s pretty—but it’s made to work. Cut, chop, slice, dice (avoid serrated knives) and enjoy it daily. Just don’t cross-contaminate: wash between meats and veggies.

Cleaning Your Board

Clean as often as needed using lukewarm water + mild soap.
Towel dry immediately, then air dry vertically.
Avoid hot water and harsh soaps—they strip the board conditioner finish.

Refinishing Your Board

Dry spots or staining over time are totally normal—especially with greens and spices. When you see this, it’s time to recondition.
Use State 48 Wood Design's Board Conditioner to restore and protect. Ours has extra beeswax to extend time between applications.

Final Notes

Knife marks are normal and expected.

How to Refinish Your Board

When to Refinish

It’s time to refinish your board when you notice it start to lose its board conditioner finish. This is common - depending on use may need to be done monthly. You can’t over condition your board.

Prep Your Board

  1. Wash thoroughly with mild soap and warm (not hot) water.

  2. Inspect the surface to ensure no food residue is left behind.

  3. Allow the board to air dry completely—do not just towel dry.

Reapply the Finish

Use State 48 Wood Designs Board Conditioner, a unique blend of 100% natural beeswax and FDA/USDA food-grade mineral oil—completely safe for food prep.

  1. Apply an even coat to all sides and surfaces.

  2. Let the board sit at room temperature for an hour or so.

  3. Buff until the board conditioner is fully absorbed into the wood. Don’t worry if you can still see remnants of the board conditioner - it’s 100% food safe.

*Your board is now refreshed, protected, and ready for everyday use.
